PROJECT UPDATE

  • 10-6-09 - Bids were received for this project.
  • 10-12-09 - A bid tabulation of this project is here.
  • 12-01-09 - Construction is underway.  The old pool has been removed.  The bath house is being retrofitted for the pumps and piping required for the new pool systems.  Most of the retaining wall footings and a section of wall has also been poured.   Much of the storm sewer work for both sites are well underway.  The basement of the new Park Activity Center has been dug and is receiving rock in preparation to start on the footings for the foundation of the new structure.
  • 12-22-09 - The pool piping work continues, the retaining wall structure is in place, rough grading for the lazy rider has been accomplished, the south addition to the bath house foundation forms are in construction and site site grading work continues.  On the Community Center, site grading and storm sewer work continues, footings are being dug and are half poured with foundation forms starting now too.
  • 1-14-10 - Pool piping work continues and is out into the area of the Lazy River.  Grading for the floor of the Lazy River continues.  Excavation of the competition pool is now underway.  Foundation walls for the Community Center are being formed & poured.  Roughly 1/4 of these walls are now in place.  The cold & snowy weather last week did hamper the progress of both projects.
  • 2-8-10 - Pool piping work continues, the lazy river has about 2/3 of the bottom poured, with one side of the associated walls poured and the other wall pretty much formed in preparation for concrete placement.  The competition pool is excavated with drain piping in progress and perimeter floor forms in place for the placement of the pool basin.  The addition to the bath house has walls and pre-cast deck panels set in preparation for the deck pour before wall construction for the main floor and roof framing.  On the Community Center, even with the snowy weather, structural steel is being set as the concrete foundation was poured out and stripped of the forms.  Concrete masonry construction is about to begin within the steel frame to fill out the structure and allow for the exterior brickwork to follow.
  • 2-9-10 - The Board of Aldermen approved the addition of the construction of a Fitness Center in the confines of the new Community Center.
  • 2-22-10 - Weather continues to play havoc with the projects, but Paric and their sub-contractors continue to press on with construction work.  The Community Center has structural steel in place, the main floor deck placed & poured and now exterior walls are being framed with sheathing applied.  Some door frames are noted on site and roof trusses have been delivered.  A lot of building materials are hitting site and it will likely become even more congested soon as the project consumes these items in construction.  The pool continues to move forward as the lap pool excavation is complete and supply piping has been laid with shot-crete employed to hold piping in place before placement of the basin.  Grade issues with the basin are being addressed on the lap pool with perimeter forms in place in hopes for a break in this weather to pour the lap pool's basin.  Small retaining walls between the bath house deck and the lap pool deck are now in construction with stamped concrete forms.  The lazy river has about half the basin and walls poured now with forms stripped.  Piping terminations for this are in progress and the excavation for the remaining section of the lazy river has been substantially accomplished.  Work will be tight in this area now as the kiddy & leisure pool excavation and construction will now take place inside the lazy river area.  It's getting tight in the  confines of the Aquatic Center these days.  Much of the main supply piping out of the bath house is now backfilled.
  • 3-8-10 - Better weather since last time has allowed for substantial progress.  The roof trusses for the community center are in place and roof sheeting started today.  On the inside, the masonry work for the elevator shaft was completed today.  Most of the sub masonry sheeting is installed on the exterior.  It is starting to take shape into the building it will become.  On the aquatic center, piping work continues around the lazy river with more testing and installation of supply and return piping.  The concrete deck over the bath house addition is poured.  Interior demolition in the existing bath house is underway.  Focus is on the leisure pool construction as it is holding up completion of the last section of the lazy river.  The leisure pool area is excavated, piping is in place and rock sub-grade is being applied in preparation for the pour of the basin.  The basin of the lap pool is poured with form work well underway for the perimeter walls there.  Paric is still under the gun to make up for lost time, but recent progress is substantial on both projects.
  • 3-19-10 - Again, decent weather has helped progress on both sites.  The Community Center now has roof sheathing with tar paper and insulated panels being applied.  Inside the building, much of the partition framing is now in place with plumbing and electrical rough-in work underway.  Interior masonry wall work is also well involved.  The fiberglass exterior wall sheathing is sealed with a polymer vapor barrier.  Excavation for the attached gym is now underway with footings and foundations soon to follow.  On the Aquatic Center, the walls of the lap pool are poured except for the diving well area.  Reinforcing steel is being placed in preparation for concrete form placement in this area.  Most of the forms from lap pool walls thus far poured have been removed.  The walls for the leisure pool inside the lazy river are being shot-creted against backing forms with the inside face being hand troweled as the material sets up.  Many of the pumps for the mechanical room of the bath house arrived today and the filter tanks are now on-site, ready for installation.  The drain forms and rock are placed on the remaining section of the lazy river in preparation for the base pour of this area.  Site electric conduit is mostly in place around the pool structures.  Both sites are congested with material and construction activity by all trades involved.
  • 4-5-10 - The Community Center roof is in place to allow electric and drywall work to move forward on the inside of the structure.  Most of the rough-in plumbing is in place, the electric panel is set in the basement.  The gymnasium is now under construction with the footings poured and now the foundation wall forms are being set with sizeable block-outs for windows and doors.  On the outside, area parking vertical curb construction has started.  The Aquatic Center is now at an interesting stage.  All of the structural concrete is now complete on all 3 pool areas.  Sill work is in progress on the Lazy River and the Leisure Pool.  The piping appears to be mostly terminated on all pools and area grading, compaction & paving will be the next major activity that should really start to make this project look like the Aquatic Center Paric hopes to deliver by Memorial Day weekend.  Area parking curb construction is well underway outside the pool area too.
  • 4-19-10 - Good weather and more progress to report on the construction of the projects.  On the Community Center, Brickwork is now underway with most of the front elevation of the building complete.  Plumbing, HVAC, Sprinklers, Electrical, Drywall and Taping operations are all well involved inside the building.  The Gymnasium foundation was completed today with a final pour and wall construction will soon follow.  On the Aquatic Center, area grading in preparation for area paving is well underway.  The abutments for the Walkway Bridge to cross over the Lazy River from the Bathhouse to the Leisure Pool is formed up with some components poured.  The Leisure Pool is about to receive application of an epoxy like coating called "Tnemec" over the concrete.  A coating of this application is in place on Competition Pool.  The Audience Risers/Sun Bathing Decks are now poured and Pumps and tanks are moving along in the basement of the Bathhouse.  Ornamental fencing is now in installation around the perimeter of the Aquatic Center and Landscaping Boulders with more interior retaining walls to accommodate grade changes inside the complex are now in construction.  Concrete curbs to help accommodate more parking in Watson Trail Park have been poured and are ready for the application of asphalt for these areas.  Parking is extremely tight at both City Hall and Watson Trail Park with all the construction activity.  Thanks to all of you who continue to display the utmost patience during this construction process.
  • 5-3-10 - In the Community Center, interior work including wiring, drywall taping, door jamb installation, HVAC ductwork items continue to move forward.  The air handlers for the HVAC system are inside the building.  Most of the block work associated with the shower area in the basement of the Community Center has been completed since our last report.  Outside the brickwork has moved to the rear of the building and is about 1/2 complete on this elevation.  Backfill up to the new foundation for the gymnasium has been accomplished.  On the Aquatic Center, the heat is on now that we are in our last 4 weeks of construction.  A break in the rainy weather would be most welcome as area paving and Tnemec epoxy coatings are underway in all of the pool basins except the Lazy River up to this point.  Mechanical work in the basement of the Bath House continues with pumps, tanks and associated piping.  Most of the area piping for the deck drains are in place as is the bulk of the Bridge Crossing to the Lazy River for the Sun Bathing Deck and Leisure Pool Area.  Handrails for the stair entries into the Lazy River have arrived and appear to be ready to be secured.  Area paving around the Competition Pool is nearing completion.  Some of the deck around the Leisure Pool has been poured with the larger areas of this deck appearing ready with all deck drains in place.  Tile was noted placed on all of the walls of the Snack Bar and ready for grouting.  The Aquatic Center is a hive of activity now as we are nearing completion of this project.
  • 5-17-10 - The Community Center has more of the walls completed inside the offices and meeting rooms on the main floor.  Many of them have received paint already.  Electric and Plumbing rough-in work continues.  In the basement, drywall is being hung in the fitness center.  HVAC ductwork continues in the ceiling area of the basement of the Community Center.  The big change since the last report was the receipt of the structural steel for the gym that has been partially erected.  On the pool, it is crunch time and much has been accomplished with an equal amount left to be done.  The area paving is pretty much complete, area lighting is being erected, landscaping components are in progress, bath house tile is underway, mechanical pumps & tanks in the basement are nearing completion while electric terminations and plumbing fixtures are being set in the change rooms.  The diving boards are set and things are really starting to take shape.  The bridge over the Lazy River is constructed while structural fencing with handrails are now being set around the site.  The water in the pools are a result of all the recent rains.  Asphalt paving is underway, but this part of the project is also being hampered by the weather.  There are some new areas that have been opened to parking, but they are not striped yet.  Paric moved their office trailer off-site by the pool and appear to be setting up in the offices of the Community Center until they turn that building over to the City.
  • 6-1-10 - The Pool is open to the public for use.  Paric is still working with the City on punchlist items.  Now the focus is on the Community Center for a September 1st completion.   Since our last report, the windows have been installed on the exterior and the brickwork was substantially completed too.  The structural steel for the gym has mostly been set, electric, HVAC, plumbing have all progressed and, interior windows have been set into place.  Half of the main floor received a pre-treatment over the concrete in preparation for the flooring to be placed.
  • 8-4-10 - Our apologies for the delay since our last report.  Absence due to injury required our focus in other areas.  Since our last report, the Aquatic Center was opened to the public and rave reviews.  Work has since focused on the Community Center where masony walls and exterior brick and roof were completed on the new Gym.  The rooftop condenser unit for the HVAC to this structure has been set.  Window & door frames are nearing completion while painting of the interior is underway.  Drywall is being hung in the stairwell to the Gym from the new Parks office area.  HVAC has been turned on in the office area while floor tile has been set, cabinetry is underway, most of the doors have been hung and painting in underway.
  • 8-20-10 - Work on the Community Center continues.  Parking lot curbs are being poured and area sidewalks and relocation of the irrigation system by in-house forces is taking place.  Wood trim looks mostly in place with staining of same starting on the back of the building.  The rooftop condenser for the Gym is set and the perimeter cover for the unit is in place.  Windows are mostly done now and the exterior masonry has been cleaned of excess mortar.  Rough grading of the exterior premisis has been completed.  Inside, tile is being set through out the building.  Doors and some fixtures have been set on the main floor.  In the basement, mechnical work continues in the ceiling with tile being set in the change rooms.  Lockers have arrived and most are set.  Painting continues in the gym.
  • 9-3-10 - More sidewalks, area grading and interior work has been completed since the last report.  Inside, the finish work of the lighting and drywall has been completed in the stairwell/tower between the floors, floor tile has been mostly set.  Painting is nearing completion in the building, wood flooring has begun in the gym and Paric is getting close to finishing out the project.
