Snow Removal Route Map
(Main routes are in bold color)
General Information
- The City has an 12 man street department (1 man from the Parks Department
will help with snow removal) for a total of a 12 man snow removal operation.
- There are 208 Streets in the City.
- The City removes snow from 55.26 miles of street.
- Off hours call outs are made by the Police Department to Public Works Staff for
24 hour notification capability.
- These notifications require a minimum of 2" of snow.
- Initial efforts to remove snow during normal business hours will have the
highest manpower available.
- After 8 hours, removal efforts will cut back by sending 6 men home for 8 hours,
leaving 8 men on the job. The 6 (at home) men will cycle out for the duration of the snow event.
- The crews have to concentrate first, on the main routes before clearing and
salting subdivision streets.
- During removal, the smaller (1-ton) truck goes in front of the larger (2-ton) truck.
The 2-ton truck carries the bulk of the salt needed. Both trucks make 2 passes on
the street, as follows:
- The first truck provides the initial first lane plowing.
- The second provides curbline plowing and salt to the first lane.
- The first truck (after making the turn in the cul-de-sac) provides the initial
second lane plowing.
- The second truck provides further curbline clearing of snow to the second
lane with more salt application to the street.
- Cars parked on the street provide real access problems for snow removal trucks.
Please see to it that your vehicle is not parked in the street during snow events.
- Cul-de-sacs take extra time and care to service.
- We cannot service cul-de-sacs with cars parked in them.
- The City cannot provide private service for driveways.
- State and County routes are not cleared by City crews. These are serviced by
the respective jurisdiction.
Private Street Snow Removal Note
There are several private streets that have maintenance issues that are keeping
them from being on our list for snow removal service. Two people on each of these
streets have been notified by mail that their street is currently not on the snow
removal route for this year. Those letters gave the specific reasons as to why they
would not be serviced. It gave the contact information for the recipient to call, after the
repairs were made, so that Street Superintendent, Bob Riggs could inspect the street
to place it back on the route for snow removal service. If you live on the following
streets, you are on a private street that will not have snow removal service from the
City of Sunset Hills:
- Belfast Drive
- Birch Tree Lane off Eddie & Park
- Bird Haven Lane
- Break Court
- Collar Court
