The City of Sunset Hills accepts applications for the position of Police Officer. Currently (posted 8-20-07) we have one opening for a Police Officer. The following are the minimum requirements.
  • AGE REQUIREMENT
    Must be at least 21 years of age, or applicant must reach his or her 21st birthday by the time of completion of police academy training.

  • RESIDENCY
    Must be a citizen of the United States, with residency in the State of Missouri by the date of appointment. Residency must be within 35 driving miles of Sunset Hills by the date of appointment.

  • EDUCATION. WORK MILITARY EXPERIENCE
    Must have either:
    1. An associate's degree or 64 semester credit hours from a regionally accredited university, college or community college. Applicant must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale or equivalent.
    2. 2. A high school diploma or GED with one year of prior police officer experience or two years of military service.

  • HEIGHT & WEIGHT
    Weight must be in proportion to height according to department standards.

  • VISION
    Minimum standard is 20/200 in each eye, uncorrected; correctable to 20/20 in each eye.

  • ARREST RECORD
    Must be free from a conviction of a Felony or a Class "A" Misdemeanor.

  • DRIVERS LICENSE
    Must possess a valid Missouri Operators License by date of appointment and have fewer than five (5) points charged against his or her driving record at time of application.

  • MILITARY
    Must have an "Honorable" discharge or a discharge "Under Honorable Conditions" if applicant has served in the military.

Salary & Benefits for Police Officer
  • SALARY
    After graduation from the police academy and upon completion of a probationary period, police officers are eligible to receive a yearly merit increase.

  • EDUCATION PAY
    Additional pay is provided to officers who have or acquire an associate's, bachelor's, or master's degree as follows: Associate's $250 Bachelor's $500 Master's $750

  • VACATION
    Employees are eligible for two weeks of vacation following one full year of service; three weeks following five full years of service, and four weeks following fifteen full years of service.

  • HOLIDAYS
    Employees receive eight paid holidays per year.

  • PERSONAL DAY
    Following one full year of service employees receive one personal day per year.

  • UNIFORMS & EQUIPMENT
    Furnished by the department at no cost to the employee. Cleaning uniforms are also provided.

  • SICK LEAVE
    Sick leave is earned from the date of employment. Employees may not use sick leave until they have completed 6 months of service. Six to twelve months 40 hours; over twelve months, 80 hours; maximum accrual 520 hours

  • INSURANCE
    Medical, dental, life insurance provided to employee. Family medical and dental is available through payroll deduction. The city pays a portion of the family coverage. Workers Compensation coverage.

  • PENSION
    The pension plan is LAGERS, which is a non-contributory plan. Employees are vested after five years of service.

  • DEFERRED COMPENSATION
    All employees have the opportunity to participate in a program of deferring a percentage of income into investments for retirement. The amounts deferred and their gain are income tax-free until retirement age.

  • OTHER
    The City provides a 125 cafeteria plan that allows employees to pay for certain medical insurance benefits and child care on a pre-tax basis.
